Liposuction

Liposuction is a safe surgery that has existed for more than 30 years. However, it must be understood that the real objective of liposuction is not to lose weight but to provide the body with a better figure and shape. Before the liposuction, the body structure of the patient must be examined first to see which part is not balanced, too bulging, or has lots of holes and fat. After the analysis, for example, having fat at the abdomen more than other parts, the abdomen can be reduced by performing liposuction.

The principle of liposuction is to reduce the fat cells around the desired area by using the Aspirating Pump that connects with tube that is used to suck Cannula fat by drilling a 0.5 centimeter hole around the area that needs the liposuction. Then, the tube is inserted through the small wound, using the power from the pump to suck out the fat. The areas that are popular and effective for liposuction are the chin, neck, upper arm, abdomen, hip, and upper leg.

The areas that are less effective for liposuction are the knees, calf, and ankle. The thickness of the fat layer around the area for liposuction should be more than 2-3 centimeters. There will be a small wound around 0.5 centimeters to insert the tube. For example, if you want to do liposuction on the abdomen, there will be a wound around the pubis or navel. Mostly, an anesthetic is needed in liposuction and you can go home after the operation. However, those who need to remove a lot of fat may be put to sleep and need to stay at the hospital for 1 night.

Liposuction Procedures
Normally, there are 2 types of liposuction, which are:
1. Use a powerful pump, which is suitable for locations with lots of area.
2. Use syringe with big needle, which is suitable for locations with limited area for liposuction.

Each time it cannot permanently reduce the weight. Therefore, you must control your diet as well. Liposuction does not change the weight much since fat is light, but the shape will change. For example, a big abdomen will be flattened.

Preparation before the liposuction
- Have a physical checkup before liposuction. Control the blood sugar in case of having diabetes. Control the blood pressure in case of having high blood pressure problem. Check your history before the surgery to see whether you are allergic to any medicine and most importantly, you should know which area has a lot of fat and which area should not be treated because if done too much, the skin around that area will become wavy.
- Two weeks before the liposuction, abstain from alcoholic drinks, smoking, and stop taking anticoagulant drugs, such as aspirin.
- Clean your body before liposuction. Have enough rest, do not worry.
- Abstain from water and food before liposuction for 6-8 hours.

Practice after the liposuction
- Take antibiotic pills and painkillers to prevent inflammation.
- Wear the strap around treated area for 4 weeks, except while taking a shower. Wear it in the afternoon and at night. Massage the skin around the liposuction area for smooth skin. Massage by hands or rollers.
- After the surgery in the first 1-3 days, the doctor will make an appointment to remove the rubber that prevents blood clot. In 3-5 days, the skin around the treated area will become green and swollen. In 7-10 days, the green will slowly disappear. In 4-6 weeks, the swelling will slowly reduce. In 8-10 weeks, the liposuction area will be flattened.
- Regarding diet, you are able to have a normal diet but not too much and no unhealthy food. If eating too much, you might gain weight again.

Complications after the surgery can occur less than other types of surgery, but can still occur, such as bleeding or wound infection. The disadvantages of having liposuction for too long is that the treated area will be rough or the skin will darken. Having liposuction with a professional surgeon can reduce these complications. Treatment after the surgery is not complicated. Patients will feel less pain. There might be some bruises but they will heal in 2-3 weeks. Tighten the elastic bandage that straps around the liposuction area just tight enough to prevent bleeding and to help flatten the swelling quicker and keep on for 7 days. Rest at home for 4-5 days. Exercise normally 3 days after the liposuction.
